NEW MEMBER TRAINING
Required Online Pre-requisites:
Students need to complete these classes prior to attending in-person training. Please note that these courses/videos are about 14 hours total, so please do not delay in getting started! If you are delayed in completing these or encounter an issue, such as a problem with a website, please contact Nick Vora (541-350-2182).

- Introduction to SAR
- Legal Considerations
- SAR Radios and Communications
- Searcher Safety and SAR GAR Process
- Incident within an incident – 8-line report
- Helicopters in Search and Rescue – Basic Level (This generates a CERTIFICATE)
- Land Navigation Pre-course Work:
o UTM Coordinate Systems
o USNG Coordinate Systems
o Latitude and Longitude Systems
o Public Land Survey System - FEMA Independent Study ICS Courses (These courses generate a CERTIFICATE that needs to be submitted upon completion.)
o IS-100 – Introduction to ICS
o IS-200 – Basic ICS for Initial Response
o IS-700 – Introduction to the Natl. Incident Management System
Blood borne pathogens training is required by OSHA for SAR team members. If you do not already have a recent certificate on file with your organization, please complete this brief online course and submit the certificate. To fully satisfy the BBP training requirement you will need a briefing on your agency’s exposure control plan and an opportunity to ask questions of an instructor.

Required Materials:
Trainees will be required to bring personal “24-hour packs” containing shelter building, fire starting, signaling, and basic survival items to the field day on Sunday, April 13th (speak to your training officer or SAR coordinator about what items your agency requires).
Meals:
Trainees will be responsible for providing their own meals.
